PLEASANTON, CA - Nearly 85 percent of homes in the U.S. have a deck, balcony or patio. It is estimated that 20 million of these decks nationwide are in need of repair or rebuilding. The North American Deck and Railing Association (NADRA), the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and Simpson Strong-Tie kick off Deck Safety Month(R) with a nationwide campaign to educate homeowners about ensuring their decks are safe and secure.

GLENCOE, IL - Homeowners interested in lowering electricity bills and gardeners interested in growing organic fruit and vegetables will find the Chicago Botanic Garden filled with these and hundreds of other carbon-reducing ideas at the Garden's "Knowledge and Action" marketplace, June 5th. The activities are all part of the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) World Environment Day celebration, where visitors will find dozens of activities and displays underscoring the day-long event theme of "CO2, Kick the Habit! Organization asks Americans to "thank" our troops by providing the gift of education to their families

WASHINGTON - ThanksUSA, a charitable effort providing college scholarships to the spouses and dependents of active-duty troops, launched a two-month fundraising drive to raise $1 million. With an Independence Day deadline, the organization hopes to raise enough money to provide more than 500 scholarships to military families this year.

Survey reveals teen attitudes about friends' driving habits as well as their own

ERIE, PA - Despite the fact that auto crashes are the top killer of U.S. teens, a recent survey by Erie Insurance and Lookin' Out, the company's teen driving awareness program, reveals that most teens consider themselves to be good drivers. But while most respondents (91 percent) believe they're driving safely, their other answers told a different story.

NEW YORK - If you really want to mess up agricultural trade, let the supplies run low. Over the last decade or so, we have repeatedly been told that subsidies are the major problem in the distortion of agricultural trade. The current situation would suggest that subsidies are the mole hill and unpreparedness for short supplies and sky-high prices is the mountain.
